Forrest Gump Review

My momma always said ,” Life was like a big box of chocolates. You never no what you’re gonna get.” – Forrest Gump

Robert Zemeckis’  Forrest Gump is about Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks), a not-so intelligent guy with a childlike persona who inspires people in various ways and has a different outlook of life. Unintentionally, Gump gets involved in all the major historical events of 20th century but gets evaded in every phase of his life by his troubled childhood sweetheart Jenny Curran (Robin Wright).

The acting in this movie is effulgent. Tom Hanks is one of my favourite actors and this is one of his best performances. This act could have either been a gimmick but Tom Hanks gives such a controlled performance that we really feel for the character. I love Robin Wright’s acting (courtesy House Of Cards) and she gives a brilliant performance. Gary Sinise and Sally Field and Mykelti Williamson are brilliant in their roles.

Robert Zemeckis’  direction is brilliant. Robert gives us so many iconic scenes in the movies such as the bench scene and also the feather scene. The best aspect of the movie and one of the main reasons that it didn’t offense someone was that Forrest has no opinion about the events taking place, he is just there. Rarely have I seen a movie so magical. The movie is very touchy in its nature and Hanks is the main reason why. The movie also doesn’t portray Jenny as a bitch who doesn’t give Forrest a chance, it is just that she was in very troubled times. The movie has excellent dialogues and is very quotable, especially ,’ Run Forest Run !’ which I shout to myself while I run.

The movie has great visual effects. I don’t know they did that especially that Medal of Honor scene with Lyndon Johnson, I just don’t know how they did that. And we get the most magical scene of all time with Forrest and Jenny running towards each other at Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool with thousands cheering. Oh my God !

This movie made me realize why high definition is important. The first time I watched this movie, I watched it in really bad picture quality and also as the movie because of which Pulp Fiction / The Shawshank Redemption missed the Best Picture Oscar. But, I decided to give it a second go yesterday and watched it in Blu-Ray and I loved it.

Forrest Gump is an amazing movie which is one of the best underdog stories ever told. The movie has brilliant performances and awesome direction and groundbreaking visual effects and awesome dialogues and a really witty and intelligent script ( which is the exact opposite of what its protagonist is but you’re gonna love him anyway ) and is surely a must watch.( in HD )
