Ennu Ninte Moideen Review

R.S.Vimal’s Ennu Ninte Moideen is about the real life love story of Kanchanamala and Moideen which took place in the 1960’s.

First of all, I took a hiatus from writing here because I was busy with studies and a crush. And to take my mind off both I decided to watch a movie. And this was the only one I had which I already hadn’t watched. So I decided to watch it. Never ever watch this one when you are trying to take your mind of your crush. Never. Ever.

Ennu Ninte Moideen is a somber, slow period piece masterfully constructed by R.S.Vimal. The movie explores the theme of the forbidden love between individuals of two religions and the stigma faced by them. It is masterfully constructed by R.S.Vimal.

The performances are mind-blowing. No actor could have played the role of Moideen except than Prithviraj. No one. This is a mind-blowing performance. But he is undoubtedly overshadowed by the performance from Parvathy as Kanchanamala. Those eyes !

The score is beautiful. The cinematography is fabulous. Check out the lighting in the scene where Moideen climbs up the window to talk to Kanchanamala and the scene where he walks home after the staging of his play. The editing is a little bit sloppy. There were many scenes which could have taken out. These scene hindered drastically the progress of the movie.

When I switched on the movie, there was cheesiness in abundance in the first segments. I thought in my mind, this is gonna be a good film, but not a great film. But as it progressed, it remembered me of Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. It explores a theme so minimal that is unthinkable as the core of a movie. But the movie is so beautifully and emotionally constructed that the intimacy brought by the kissing and lovemaking scenes in Hollywood movies is radiated by a simple hand touch between Moideen and Kanchanamala. It leaves you with moist eyes.

The movie is depressing, not because how it ends, but because of the magic it is interwoven in. Two lovers waiting for each other’s companionship throughout their life. It makes you yearn for such love, just as Fight CLub makes you yearn for a freedom from our mundane lives. It is a fantasy movie, which gives us an experience of the implausible reality, and makes us regret our life. In short, trying to get over my crush has become unthinkable. And that is why watch Sid and Nancy. You will love the end !
