Casablanca Review

Casablanca. The name itself exudes a charm unlike any other place on this planet. Much like the movie itself.

I am often terrified when I watch movies which have continuously been featured in almost all of the great movies lists ever made. I was disappointed by Citizen Kane, Vertigo and may more. However, after watching Casablanca, I realize it is to critics what ‘Music & Lyrics’ is too me. A hell-of a guilty pleasure.

Casablanca was, without a doubt, a movie which was made to capitalize on the ongoing war. Yet, even after 75 years, there is a charm to its dialogues and characters and songs like none another. I believe Casablanca is the quintessential movie, one which distinguishes cinema from all art forms, for the emotions range from love to patriotism and we readily accept all of them.

Humphrey Bogart is fabulous as Rick and so is Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa Lund. Their presence together reeks romance. To be frank, I can find you almost hundreds of movies almost like Casablanca, but not just like Casablanca (yes, partially because of copyright laws). It is because Casablanca is magic. Believe me, there is some fairy-dust sprinkled all over its frames which grips through all the viewers who have seen it through the ages.

And frankly, that doesn’t exclude me. This is one movie that I don’t mind being called one of the greatest of all time. I absolutely loved it.

RATING :- 9.3 / 10
